Giada Colagrande, born in Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy, is an Italian film director and actress. She studied in Italy, Switzerland, and Australia before moving to Rome where she started making video art and documentaries on contemporary art. From 1997 to 2000, she created a series of video portraits of seven contemporary artists as part of the VOLUME project. Colagrande directed three short films between 1997 and 2000 before making her feature debut with 'Aprimi il Cuore' (Open My Heart) in 2002, which was well-received at international film festivals and earned her a Silver Ribbon nomination for Best New Director. She subsequently directed two more features, 'Before it Had a Name' (Black Widow) in 2005 and 'A Woman' in 2010, both of which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. In addition to her film work, Colagrande has also made short films for the PRADA series The Miu Miu Women's Tales and directed a documentary on Marina Abramović.
