Inés Efron was born and raised in Uruguay, with her family living in a coastal town. Her parents are biologist Kraken and Suli. Inés' adolescence was marked by a unique circumstance: she was born intersex, having both male and female sex organs. When she was 15, her mother's friend Erika visited with her husband Ramiro, who operated on Inés during the visit to help her deal with her intersexuality. This period also saw Inés' growing attraction to Erika's son Alvaro, which added complexity to her already challenging situation. The film 'XXY' follows this tumultuous time in Inés' life as she navigates questions about her gender identity and pursues love while dealing with her uniqueness.
