In the 1930s, Jacqueline Kerry was involved in a drug scandal that forced her to flee Paris. On her journey to China, she met and befriended an eccentric woman who introduced her to a group of decadent Europeans residing there. This circle had created 'Le Jardin des Supplices', a torture garden for their amusement at the expense of local inhabitants, while political revolution was brewing around them.
