Liza Minnelli, born March 12, 1946 in Los Angeles to actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli, is an American performer known for her powerful stage presence and alto singing voice. She started her career as a musical theatre actress in New York City after moving there in 1961. Minnelli won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for 'Flora the Red Menace' (1965) and collaborated with John Kander and Fred Ebb throughout her career, performing iconic songs like 'New York, New York', 'Cabaret', and 'Maybe This Time'. Her film breakthrough came with 'The Sterile Cuckoo' (1969), followed by her Academy Award-winning performance in 'Cabaret' (1972). Minnelli has appeared in several films including 'Arthur' (1981) and made multiple returns to Broadway. She has also worked extensively in television and concert performances, notably touring with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. between 1988-1990.
