Ornella Vanoni, born on September 22, 1934, is an Italian singer-songwriter and actress who began her career in theater acting in Bertolt Brecht's works under Giorgio Strehler at Milan's Piccolo Teatro. She started her music career simultaneously, initially gaining the nickname 'the Underworld Singer' for performing Milanese songs about the criminal underworld. Vanoni scored several hits like 'Senza Fine' and 'Che cosa c'è', both written by Gino Paoli. She participated in numerous festivals including Sanremo, with notable entries like 'Casa Bianca'. Her works include covers of international songs such as Burt Bacharach's 'Don't Make Me Over'. She collaborated with Vinicius de Moraes and Toquinho on the song 'La voglia, la pazzia, l'incoscienza e l'allegria'. Vanoni also starred in stage, TV shows, and movies. Her nude portrait for Playboy magazine and inclusion of her song 'L'Appuntamento' in Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Twelve renewed global interest in her music.
