In the 15th century Alps, a young goatherd named Albrun lives alone in a mountain hut. She begins to feel an ominous presence in the woods surrounding her home. As the line between ancient magic, faith, and madness blurs, Albrun struggles to maintain her sanity while fear and terror of pagan beliefs in witches and nature spirits grip the rural population.
Hagazussa (2017), directed by Lukas Feigelfeld, is a slow-burn folk horror film set in the 15th century Alps. The movie follows Albrun, a young woman navigating her existence as a goatherd in isolation. As she grapples with feelings of paranoia and a growing sense of darkness around her, the film explores themes of mental health, superstition, and the power of fear to shape societal perceptions.
