La jaula de oro follows three teenagers from Guatemala's slums - Juan, Sara, and Samuel - as they embark on a journey to the United States in search of a better life. Along their treacherous journey through Mexico, they encounter Chauk, an Indian from Chiapas who communicates primarily through his native language rather than Spanish.
