In the town of Fairfield, four high school seniors - Billy (Christian Slater), Max (Johnny Pacar), Laura (Tricia Helfer), and Joey (Venessa Shaw) - are investigating a cold case for their journalism assignment. They discover an old film reel in the town's abandoned mental hospital, containing footage of a stabbing that happened decades ago. Unbeknownst to them, this act awakens an evil spirit who seeks his true heir among the living. The spirit begins possessing and corrupting the townspeople, including the students themselves, leading to gruesome murders. As the bodies pile up, Billy and Laura must confront their own dark secrets and race against time to stop the spirit before it's too late.
