Maria Theresia von Paradis, born in 18th century Vienna and close friend of Mozart, lost her eyesight as a child. Her parents entrusted her to Dr. Mesmer who used innovative techniques of magnetism to help Maria recover her sight. However, this recovery came at the cost of losing her exceptional musical talent.
